What a lift station is doing that a septic tank never has to
A septic tank mostly lets gravity do the work. A lift station exists for the sites where gravity will not cooperate, a building set lower than the line it needs to drain to, or a run too long and too flat to fall the right way on its own. Effluent collects in a wet well until a float switch trips a pump, which pushes it up and over to a point where gravity can take back over. A second float sits above the first as a backup trigger, and a third usually rides high enough to sound an alarm if the pump cannot keep up, because a wet well that overflows is a genuine mess rather than an inconvenience. We install lift stations as part of the same published service list that covers septic tanks, treatment plants and grease traps, and we run our own vacuum trucks and a tracked excavator out of Florence to do it.

A commercial system usually just means more of what a residential call already is: bigger tanks, more volume, and sometimes a truck making a second trip rather than one pass. The crew opening a lift station or a car wash pit is the same crew that opens a house tank, so the floats, the pump wiring and the alarm circuit are not unfamiliar territory the day something trips. Because no two commercial sites are built the same way, we look at yours before we quote it rather than working off a flat commercial rate, the same as we do on a residential job.

What a car wash pit actually collects
A car wash bay drains into a pit for the same reason a kitchen drains into a grease trap, it needs somewhere for what does not belong downstream to settle out first. Grit and road sand sink to the bottom, oily film and detergent residue sit through the water, and the pit only keeps doing that job while there is room in it. A pit that never gets pumped fills in from the bottom until it is not settling anything anymore, and the wash bay finds out the way a kitchen finds out about a full grease trap, as standing water where there should not be any.
