Septic Pump-Outs

A septic tank collects everything that leaves your house through the drains. Over time, solids settle into a sludge layer that the system cannot break down on its own. Pumping removes that layer before it backs up into the drain field or, worse, into your yard.

How a pump-out works

A vacuum truck connects a large-diameter hose to the tank access lid. The technician pumps liquid, sludge, and floating scum into the truck's holding tank. The process usually takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on tank size and how long it has been since the last service. Once the tank is empty, the technician inspects the baffles and the inlet and outlet tees for cracks or blockages.

How often should you pump?

Most residential tanks need pumping every 3 to 5 years. A smaller tank or a larger household may shorten that interval. If your drains are running slow, your yard smells near the tank, or you notice standing water over the drain field, those are signs the tank is overdue. Seal Digging Service can recommend a schedule based on your tank size and household.

What to watch for between pump-outs

Avoid flushing anything that does not break down: wipes, grease, coffee grounds, and paint. These fill the sludge layer faster and can clog the outlet baffle. If your system has a filter at the outlet tee, it should be rinsed every time the tank is pumped.
